The Comedian’s Comedian Live With Stuart Goldsmith
By Shiv Das | Published on Thursday 22 August 2013
If you’re after jokes, you’ve come to the wrong place: this is the comedian’s version of ‘Inside the Actor’s Studio’, with different comedy stars appearing every night. The charismatic Stuart Goldsmith provides a thought-provoking and at times emotional interview with the inspiring Susan Calman. There is a brilliant energy between them, and the interview flows smoothly as the audience learn about Calman’s depression, and her difficulties growing up as a lesbian. Her life story is poignant, just like her larger than life stage presence. She talks about her problems, yet at times her light-hearted humour engages tremendously with the audience. ”Comedy saved her life”, she explains, indicating that she would have had a nervous breakdown if she’d continued her career as a lawyer. A great concept for a show, delivered brilliantly.
Gilded Balloon Teviot, until 26 Aug, 5.15pm.
