The Blank Slates (PBH’s Free Fringe)

By | Published on Friday 16 August 2013

The Blank Slates display admirable enthusiasm, willingness to compromise their individual egos and sacrifice personal dignity for the good of the game. They started with some quick gaming, before moving onto a long-form improv play which, whilst well-received by the audience and flecked with moments of brilliance, wanted for pace and dragged to the end. Audience suggestions felt largely ancillary to the piece, which didn’t quite achieve the impression that it was unrehearsed. The speed exhibited by some of the performers was a little grating, ploughing over several missed opportunities for a gag. Most were clearly only in their comfort zone with a range of one or two go-to voices or modes, stepping out for brief, hilarious moments.

Chiquito, until 24 Aug(not 14, 21), 1.15pm.
