Sean McLoughlin – Backbone (Sean McLoughlin / Free Festival)
By Sarah Virgo | Published on Thursday 22 August 2013
“Who’s skint? We all are – it’s a free show!” Sean McLoughlin talks having no money, being unemployable and relationships. Amiable and laid-back, McLoughlin makes the audience feel right at home with his sometimes a bit dark but always funny anecdotes and opinions on everything from nectar cards, his hatred of teenagers, to the use of the word ‘murder’. His deeply personal stories are sometimes cringe-worthy and awkward, but this never detracts from the show’s overall comedic value. The material is raw and different and has the fairly packed audience laughing the entire hour, as his wit and personality dominates, and the jokes are never offensive or in bad taste. McLoughlin professes he isn’t very good at being a comedian but I’d beg to differ – he’s one to watch.
Laughing Horse @ Espionage, until 25 Aug, 6.15pm.
