Rowena Haley – There’s More To Life Than Chips (SRH Productions / PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Sophie Nicoll | Published on Thursday 22 August 2013
Bolton born Rowena Haley combines comedy songs with stories of growing up with an OAP as your best friend. Her comedic timing and deadpan delivery mean she’s a natural storyteller, but this show seems to lose focus along the way. Though starting out strongly, it loses steam and begins to feel rather ranty around halfway through, with fewer and fewer jokes peppered throughout the stories. However, the main problem with the show is that it’s all at the same pace; perhaps more songs would have provided good bookends to different stages, but it’s a tough call. There’s definite promise, but more work is needed.
Southsider, until 24 Aug, 7.00pm.
