Rob Collins – Jesus Christ Flew Into The Cuckoo’s Nest
By Ian Freeman | Published on Friday 16 August 2013
This is not an easy going comedy show, nor is it one for the faint-hearted. Rob Collins is a man with a lot of baggage, and he’s not afraid to share it with the audience. With material covering mental breakdowns and being sectioned, it was never likely to be non-stop laughs; but the majority of the material wove a compelling narrative, though this was sandwiched by preachy messages and a fairly unfunny stand up routine. He could easily have come across as quite a nasty person if judged on some of the stories he told, but instead managed to appear genuine and displayed a distinct warmth to complement his commanding stage presence. Ultimately well meaning and engaging enough, with sufficiently amusing anecdotes, but given the lack of really hilarious material, there was plenty of room for improvement.
Laughing Horse @ Espionage, until 25 Aug, 4.00pm.
