PowerCouple – Stand-up Comedy From Stephen Bailey And Gary John Senior (Stephen Bailey and Gary John Senior / Laughing Horse Free Festival)
By Robert Stuart | Published on Saturday 31 August 2013
In principle, it’s quite a clever idea. Stephen Bailey and Gary John Senior both individually deconstruct the their relationship; why it works, and at times why it doesn’t. Beyond that, however, there isn’t much to be enthused about. With fairly lazy, unoriginal and occasionally crass material, very little of this examination into their relationship is profound, or especially funny. Whilst there is little doubt that their lively, albeit contrasting characters maintain a decent energy in the room, Bailey and John Senior are still unable to hide the fact that the material lacks a substantial foundation. Not exactly a ‘powercouple’; it’d be easier to liken them to Richard and Judy than Barack and Michelle.
Laughing Horse @ The Free Sisters, until 25 Aug, 9.45pm.
