Phil Kay Verbal Diary (Pay What You Want / Bob’s Bookshop)
By Stephanie Gray | Published on Tuesday 20 August 2013
Phil Kay keeps his manic, enthusiastic comedy going without pauses for an entire hour in this anecdotal stand-up. He’s a very accommodating host, jumping between stories while somebody nips to the loo and whipping out a guitar for some impromptu improvisation when a heckler demands he sings. Occasionally Kay forgets which story he was telling, and doesn’t always tie up loose ends before moving on, but he’s so obviously eager to please that the audience doesn’t mind. The fast paced nature of the show does leave the audience wondering what they just witnessed, but if anything that just means he’ll be one of the talking points of the festival.
Heroes @ The Hive, until 11 Aug, 7.00pm.
