Paul Zerdin – No Strings (CKP In Association With Cole Kitchenn)
By Elspeth Rudd | Published on Friday 9 August 2013
Paul Zerdin is a talented ventriloquist and received a warm response from the crowd, who thoroughly enjoyed the various puppet-characters he introduced us to. As expected of a ventriloquism act, much of his routine relied on the puppets for laughs (successfully so), but I found him funniest when the puppets were put away and he used his voice-throwing abilities for anecdotes and audience participation. Personally, I thought the characters were often more annoying than comical, as the basic premise of ‘puppet arguing with comedian’ remained the same, but he had the rest of the room in stitches. Zerdin is a skilled comedian and his show is slick, entertaining and funny, although the high-pitched puppet voices may become grating.
Gilded Balloon Teviot, until Aug 25 (not 12), 8.00pm.
