Norman Lovett – Old And New (Voodoo Rooms / Blonde Ambition)
By Andrew Pollard | Published on Friday 9 August 2013
Lovett’s brand of comedy is a serene, easy-going kind of whimsy, delightful in a mellow, ticklish way. His humour is delicate and exceptionally dry, occasionally reaching a curious threshold somewhere between amusement and bemusement. It gets to a point where you wonder if you’re really at a comedy club or just watching your favourite granddad talk you through his picture slides. It’s unlikely to yield ceaseless laughter, but Lovett’s world is a quaint, steady place filled with sunshine, pugs and the occasional C-bomb. For those who are in the right head space it’s immensely enjoyable stuff, but those looking for something a little stronger may find themselves (to carry on Lovett’s Sugababes debate) “lost”.
The Voodoo Rooms, until 25 Aug (not 5, 12, 19), 8.00pm.
