Mike Wozniak – Take The Hit (Mike Wozniak / The Stand Comedy Club)
By Elizabeth Jewell | Published on Saturday 10 August 2013
With its bizarre, embittered and gloriously moustached star, ‘Take The Hit’ is real showbiz, showbiz, showbiz. Clad in a frilled dress shirt and velvet bow-tie, Wozniak took his place in front of a crudely taped-up piece of sequinned cloth – for the glamour, darlings – to tell some jokes. He turns the classic mother-in-law spiel on its head, or rather utilises it to a hitherto unprecedented, and covers parenting, career choices and death, while constantly reminding us of his persistent family issues and matricidal tendencies. The gags are witty and clever, often centring around the domestic sphere; and surely no-one else at the Fringe will have such an amusing toilet brush anecdote.
The Stand Comedy Club II, until 25 Aug (not 12), 12.10pm.
