M.P.H. – A Comedy Compendium (Lindsay Gonzales / Free Festival)
By Rory Morgan | Published on Friday 16 August 2013
With a sharp and amiable persona, Lindsay Gonzales puts on a show that is both enjoyable but also at times quite frustrating. Her observational humour is delivered with ease and is without any over the top antics. Some of her American pop culture and social references will be lost on crowds, but Gonzales manages to more than make up for this by throwing in comical references to the cultural differences. Her musical comedy does not quite match up, however, and at times felt a little strained, coming across as clever but not genuinely funny. Gonzales is clearly very talented, but one senses that this routine does not effectively expose her abilities. Still, the wit of her observational humour is enough to make the set worth recommending.
Laughing Horse @ The Phoenix, until 25 Aug, 12.00pm.
