Joe Lycett – If Joe Lycett Then You Should’ve Put A Ring On It (Joe Lycett / Chambers Management)
By Sophie Nicoll | Published on Friday 9 August 2013
For those who like the taste of laid back comedy, Joe Lycett’s stand-up has it all. In his charmingly camp storytelling style, he meanders through the topics of sexuality, pizza and alter egos, keeping the jokes accessible and refreshing. The relaxed atmosphere of the show is helped along by Lycett’s eager interaction with the audience, who soon all feel they’re in on the joke. Lycett’s comedy is playful to the point of schoolboy immaturity, with elements of student-like awkwardness. However, his anecdotes consistently hit the mark, partly because of their middle class resonance, but also thanks to his excellent timing. The theme of the show, he tells us, is “naughty or nice”. Which one is he? – I’ll let you be the judge of that.
Pleasance Courtyard, until 25 Aug (not 12), 7.15pm.
