History Of The World In Three Darts (Brian Appleton)
By Shiv Das | Published on Wednesday 21 August 2013
The afro-wig wearing “inventor” of progressive rock music, Brian Appleton, is a connoisseur of music and history. His comedy routine gives us his account of all the royal blunders in our long history. Would the Universal Law of Gravitation still have been established if Isaac Newton had felt a bit peckish and eaten the apple instead? With upside down slides coupled with volume problems on his upside down guitar, Appleton gives the hilarious impression of an onstage, musical car-crash. Stopping mid-song and explaining, casually, what his lyrics mean, he amuses the audience with his lack of sincerity. The rugged, acronym-loving rocker from Selly Oak is the real deal and, despite it being his last night at the Fringe, he proved he hasn’t reached his expiry date.
Pleasance Dome, until 11 Aug, 8.20pm.
