Good Breeding (Kate Fox / PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Kyung Oh | Published on Monday 26 August 2013
This is quite a niche show – not so much a comedy act as a defence of women who choose not to have children. Kate Fox peppers the show with informative facts about the costs of raising a child, as well as pointing out media coverage that stigmatises childless women. There’s also a healthy amount of audience interaction: we took turns raising a flour baby throughout the show, and she polled our opinions on the matter. Is it worth the time and money to raise a child? Is it necessarily natural, even, to want one in the first place? ‘Good Breeding’ is a bit low on the laugh count, but interesting nonetheless, and challenges notions of child-rearing that are taken for granted.
Dragonfly, until 24 Aug, 6.40pm.
