Gareth Morinan Is Playing The Numbers Game [A-Z] (gMorinan.com / PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Sarah Richardson | Published on Sunday 18 August 2013
Gareth Morinan’s quirky approach to publicity gives a glimpse of what to expect from his stand up: he took out 11 consecutive programme listings because mathematically it worked out as more space for less money than an advert. Branding his show “edutainment”, the endearingly geeky comedian intersperses often witty graph-based slides with cartoons in a routine based around his search for a girlfriend (as he points out, he is a very short man, and online dating sites have an irritating habit of asking you to specify your height). Despite the original approach, however, the material is too well-worn to deliver laughs consistently, and the funniest moments are when Morinan strays onto tangents. Still, for a free show, you could do worse.
The Banshee Labyrinth, until 24 Aug, 6.40pm.
