Ellie And Oscar Share A Time (Ellie White And Oscar Jenkyn Jones / PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Stephen Maughan | Published on Wednesday 21 August 2013
‘Ellie and Oscar Share a Time’ was a pleasure to watch. This satisfyingly outlandish show sees two character comedians, Ellie White and Oscar Jenkyn-Jones, take to the stage as a variety of different comic personas. The characters have depth and authenticity, and are portrayed convincingly, which speaks volumes about the performers’ acting abilities. The material, however, wasn’t anything special. White’s performance was witty, but also relied on banal stock characters like middle-aged women obsessed with cats. Jenkyn-Jones’ set, meanwhile, was simply bizarre; his parody of a socially awkward man worked well, and his chillingly accurate ‘impression of a bar’ was both ridiculous and whimsical, but he sometimes lost the audience with a few absurd routines that seemed beyond anyone’s understanding.
The Voodoo Rooms, until 24 Aug, 4.50pm.
