ED2013 4/5 Reviews ED2013 Comedy Reviews
Damn Danes (Bispebjerg Comedy Corner)
By Joe Abel | Published on Tuesday 13 August 2013
Marauding genially through the lowlands, exchanging axes for precision wit, Valdemar Pustelnik is an endearingly absurd friendly giant, a self-deprecating, bear-hugging berserker. The dead-pan delivery is jovial and inclusive, not bitter or alienated. Both comedians reference a culturally stereotyped frankness, which is then complicated, confirmed and contradicted. It’s used to unpack audiences’ preconceived notions and to speak plainly about shared experiences, which is satisfying to see. Propriety and politeness is exposed for what it is- affectation, a dishonest barrier to enjoying each other. Sofie Hagen is cheerfully downbeat and has a wonderful knack for building audience sympathy, then crushing it for a laugh. Her well constructed, brassy material builds quickly, from short gags to a glorious saga of weeping laughter.
Laughing Horse @ The Counting House, until 7 Aug, 1.15pm.
