Charmian Hughes – Odd One In (PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Shiv Das | Published on Thursday 8 August 2013
Deserving of the word ‘odd’ in the title, this was anything but a comedy show. Hughes failed to make the audience laugh with this account of her life, in which she even managed to make a story about a failed romantic encounter with disgraced former MP Chris Huhne sound blunt and uninteresting; Although she is charming, the show is devoid of any jokes; the only time the audience laughed was when she asked a Northern Irish man to help her mimic his accent. She tried to gain reassurance from her audience by explaining that today was her first show, but it just ended up sounding like a cry for help. Disappointing.
The Banshee Labyrinth, until 24 Aug (not 12), 3.10pm.
