Catriona Knox – Player (Catriona Knox)
By Sophie Nicoll | Published on Thursday 22 August 2013
Character comedian Catriona Knox relies heavily on her audience in this show – so beware. It’s slightly manic from the beginning, yet the inclusion of whisky shots and dance numbers means that the set brims with promise. However, many of the jokes fail to hit the mark, producing giggles but never full-on, side-splitting howls. The madcap use of props and alcohol draws the biggest laughs and lots of the ideas behind the sketches are very funny; but the constant audience participation makes them occasionally excruciating to watch. It’s one of those shows where if the audience feels awkward, the show could potentially be ruined; however, Knox has some really inventive characters worth meeting, and her excitement – or slight madness – makes them work.
Pleasance Courtyard, until 26 Aug (not 13), 3.15pm.
