Canadians Of Comedy (Allyson Smith, Paul Myrehaug and Tim Rabnet)
By Julian Joseph | Published on Saturday 31 August 2013
A three act show of solid, though not radically innovative, Canadian headliners. Tim Rabnett told stories and observations about being middle aged and having children, and he’s likeable, charming and insightful enough to breathe life into these stock stand-up themes. Allyson Smith often directed her material to the women, but wasn’t afraid to be shocking and explicit in her coverage of relationships and gender differences, and was hilarious in her discussion of different types of strippers. Paul Myrehaug was the most energetic and shocking of the three, picking up momentum at the end of the evening with ridiculous stories and commentaries. However, he concentrated on the audience’s reception too much, and seemed to peter out at the end. Overall, the show was a great evening’s entertainment.
Gilded Balloon Teviot, until 25 Aug, 11.15pm.
