ED2013 2/5 Reviews ED2013 Comedy Reviews
Bright Club (Bright Club / The Assembly Rooms)
By Tom Bateman | Published on Tuesday 13 August 2013
The problem with ‘Bright Club’ is that it isn’t really the comedy event it’s billed as being. There were some truly funny moments: the tales of liquid nitrogen, sheep’s testicles, and ‘Die Hard’ roused some polite laughter from the audience, but they were relatively few. This isn’t to say I didn’t enjoy what the performers had to offer; I was fascinated by the sociology of superheroes, and the history of the India Pale Ale, but the delivery of the material was often less than confident. I’m inclined to let that go, however, because the performers are academics, not comedians. Overall, I left ‘Bright Club’ better informed, but perhaps not quite entertained enough.
The Assembly Rooms, until 25 Aug, 3.45pm.
