Best New Sketch Act 2013 – The Final (The Gilded Balloon / Sketch Club)

It was a close competition at the inaugural ‘Best New Sketch Act’ Final. In the running were Mixed Doubles, Gerardine Coyne, Ladies Live Longer, Staple/face, Recant & Fennell and The Real MacGuffins. Each act were given two lots of five minutes to wow and amuse the judges, whilst Mark Dolan kept us amused with his witty banter about married life, Facebook and more married life. I enjoyed The Real MacGuffins’ sketch attempt to mention each font, but the clear winners were the hilarious Staple/face with a caretaker’s mystery shopper, a re-enactment of the moon landing and a joyfully violent story. Staple/face have won a slot at the Gilded Balloon next year, and are definitely worth checking out in the future.
