BEASTS (DAA Management).
By Joseph Trotter | Published on Saturday 31 August 2013
Fringe regulars BEASTS are starting to make a little headway in their game. They return in 2013 far sharper than previous years, and this year’s show is a strong offering, highlighting the trio’s talent for the comedic absurd. Although prone to the problems that afflict most sketch troupes – pacing issues and a decidedly mixed bag of jokes – BEASTS for the most part manage to avoid these potholes better than many sketch luminaries, most notably Wit Tank. There are some blinding pieces in this set, but the consistency just isn’t quite there to make this a must see show. Likewise, some of the material is blatantly filler, meaning that parts of it seem stretched. But next year might be the time to burden yourselves with the BEASTS.
Pleasance Courtyard, until 26 Aug, 4.45pm.
