Barry From Watford – Shooting From The (New) Hip (Live Nation Presents…)
By Alix White | Published on Saturday 31 August 2013
Comedian Alex Lowe has the audience in stitches with his hilarious character comedy. Lowe adopts the persona of elderly Watford resident, Barry, and he is rude, crass and outrageously entertaining. Admittedly, a lot of the material is generated by life in the Hertfordshire borough of Watford, and at times I felt like an outsider, looking in on a personal joke between Lowe and the audience members hailing from the same town. Yet there were enough moments in the show that were universally entertaining and accessible to a wide age range, even if a number of references and jokes were definitely aimed at a distinctly older audience. Undeniably funny, but maybe even more so if you’re from Watford.
Pleasance Courtyard, until 25 Aug, 10.20pm.
