ED2013 2/5 Reviews ED2013 Comedy Reviews
Amy Wright’s Occupation (Amy Wright / PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Alice Harrold | Published on Friday 16 August 2013
Like a true teacher, Wright crams as much as possible into her hour long slot, incorporating history, grammar, politics, quizzes and presentations. As a result, the show is unfocused; the themes vary from a rant on Michael Gove’s education reforms to anecdotes about Wright’s childhood, education and career as a primary school supply teacher. The act is delivered with cheerfulness and perseverance but is lacking in developed and consistent content and the timing is frequently off. There is almost something sweet about a comedian who enjoys their own jokes when the crowd is quiet, but an endearing nature fails to bring things together.
El Barrio, until 23 Aug, 2.30pm.
