The Very Scariesome Lollipop Lady (Martha McBrier / Free Festival)
By Lizzie Milton | Published on Monday 12 August 2013
A cautionary tale about crossing the road safely is by no means a bad idea during this hectic month in Edinburgh. Martha McBrier is adept at working with children, making sure they felt comfortable and involved. She also possesses a charming writing style, matched with a soothing ‘bedtime story’ voice. However, the story can be a little tedious, feeling more like a children’s book than a show designed for the stage, and the moral of the story is somewhat confused, at once positing both positive and negative attitudes towards lollipop ladies. Likely to be less engaging for children over ten; but for younger families, a welcome respite from the fury of the Fringe.
Laughing Horse @ The Free Sisters, until 11 Aug, 12.15pm.
