Yurtakids! Cinderella (Factory Compagnia Transadriatica)
By Christie Rolley | Published on Wednesday 21 August 2013
For families seeking a traditional adaptation of ‘Cinderella’, Yurtakids’ version may not be your fairytale show. Taking a much more physical approach to storytelling than the usual narrative, this show combines highly professional dance and stereotypical physical comedy to create an innovative visual picture. However despite the apparent talent of all the cast members, the lack of dialogue and extremely stylised nature of certain sections failed to engage younger members of the audience. Pauses which could have been comedic were extended to a point of indulgence and the repetition of the certain sections left many children uninterested. Despite this there were moments of great amusement, enjoyment and endearment. A show with great potential not entirely realised, ‘Cinderella’ is still a solid family watch.
Summerhall, until 25 Aug, 3.45pm.
