ED2013 2/5 Reviews ED2013 Children's Shows Reviews
Bon Bon (Gabriella and Octavia)
By Christie Rolley | Published on Wednesday 21 August 2013
A children’s fairytale about sweets appears, at first glance, to be a recipe for success. Disappointingly, although this production had an interesting, charming story and all the ingredients of a wonderful fairytale, it failed to enchant the audience. It’s saccharine in its delivery and almost forcibly interactive (even when the younger audience members were evidently unimpressed). Gabriella and Octavia make the ‘just play happy music and children will be interested’ mistake of so many children’s shows. Despite a couple of dubious accents, the cast were committed to their characters and an adorable little white rabbit called Pinky was a particular highlight. Ultimately not worth the early start, audiences would do well to look for something a little sweeter.
C aquila, until 26 Aug, 10.00am.
