Lapin Wants Breakfast (Le Petit Monde)
By Lizzie Milton | Published on Monday 12 August 2013
Lapin is a French rabbit who only wants apples for breakfast, and with the help of Tania Czejka we must help him find some. It’s a shame, then, that this hour long show, designed to introduce children to French, fails to entertain despite its charming premise. There is minimal audience interaction, and Tania seems unduly thrown whenever our pint size hecklers offer help outside of the designated audience interaction points. The puppetry is poorly executed and the script has little structure, seemingly trying to fit in as many French words as possible, with little regard for their entertainment value. It’s a nice idea, but not engaging enough to capture a five year old’s attention for a whole fifty minutes.
Institut français d’Ecosse, until 18 Aug (not 12), 10.00am.
