ED2013 4/5 Reviews ED2013 Children's Shows Reviews
The Firebird (Purves Puppets)
By Christie Rolley | Published on Wednesday 14 August 2013
Professional and deeply engaging from the outset, this show demonstrates the best of ingenuity and special effects in children’s theatre. Gasp-inducing effects such as a sudden rainstorm and magical spells accompanied entertaining puppetry of people and animals, each possessing amusing personalities which had children and adults alike giggling. The story of the Firebird is charming and understated, proving that not all children’s shows require an overly enthusiastic children’s television presenter in order to be engaging. The adaptation of the traditional Russian story to include humorous puppet animals and trees brought this show right up to date, while retaining the intrinsic story telling aspect of the show. A lovely production and well worth a visit.
