Si L’enfant Ne Dort Pas Bien… (If The Child Does Not Sleep Well) (Dreamland Theatre)
By Jade Wilson | Published on Monday 26 August 2013
Whizzing through a bit of French vocab, before dipping into some ballet and opera, this show is a cultural feast for children. The story is simple but the components feel random, as we swap from English to French and back again within a few moments. The pyjama-clad children, Charlotte and Sammy, provide plenty of energy and their soprano voices are beautiful, even if you have no idea what they are singing about. The attempt to choreograph one of the songs fell flat in comparison to the wonderful swan dance, whilst flamboyant costumes and make-up created some spectacle. More like a showcase at points, some creativity is needed to ease segues between languages, songs and dances, to fashion a more cohesive show.
Zoo, until 17 Aug, 10.30am.
