Hairy Maclary And Friends Show Featuring Slinky Malinki (Nonsense Room Productions And Assembly)
By Andrew Bell | Published on Saturday 24 August 2013
An all singing, all dancing, all doggy (except for the cats and people, of course) production, ‘Hairy Maclary’ is clearly a hit with the pre-schoolers in the audience. From shouting out when they see a picture, to singing along and giggling at the dogs’ antics – skilfully created by actors in impressive costumes – the children are kept happy throughout. “Mrs Plum”, our narrator, keeps the energy levels high and charms the children with ease. This is very much a kids’ show though – there aren’t any bones tossed to the adults in the audience – and it’s clearly pitched at fans of the books, with much of the interaction requiring a working knowledge of Hairy’s exploits. A solid, fun hour for young ones.
Assembly George Square, until 26 Aug, 10.50am.
