ED2013 2/5 Reviews ED2013 Cabaret Reviews
Twonkeys Blue Cadabra (Free Festival / Paul Vickers presents)
By Elizabeth Jewell | Published on Thursday 22 August 2013
Cripplingly bizarre, and deliberately rejecting any form of wit, plot, themes, narrative or logic, Mr Twonkey’s absurdist cabaret act was the product of an arbitrary selection of words, phrases and songs. The singing was barely adequate and the songs were a desperate attempt to appear ‘random’ for the sake of being facetious. Mr Twonkey used three of the creepiest puppets I’ve ever had the misfortune of seeing, and his foray into magic was intentionally terrible. Many found this peculiar brand of unconnected silliness hilarious, and it had its moments, but more often than not was just eccentric ramblings. A weird highlight was the ‘sexy shipwheel of knickers’, where Twonkey handed out XXL lingerie for uncomfortable comic effect. Original but unpleasant.
Laughing Horse @ Espionage, until 25 Aug, 7.30pm.
