Richard Tyrone Jones’s Big Heart (Utter! Spoken Word / PBH’s Free Fringe)

By | Published on Thursday 16 August 2012

If you are uncomfortable about the fact that we are all just mush held up by skeletons, and don’t really want to think about the inner workings of the human body, then this frank lecture might make you squirm a little. Tyrone Jones doesn’t skirt around the grisliness of heart surgery nor the existential dread that comes with being close to death. He’s lived it – he suffered heart failure in 2010 and experienced serious illness, medical emergency and the very real possibility that he might never fully recover. Today, however, he seems fighting fit, full of energy and self-deprecating wit, and his poetry is an uplifting reminder of the beauty to be found in the mundane aspects of life.

The Banshee Labyrinth, 4-25 Aug (not 13, 19), 6.00pm.
