Charlie Dupré Presents – The Stories of Shakey P (Charlie Dupré / PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Joanna Gill | Published on Friday 24 August 2012
If music be the food of love, rap on. The thought of educational hip-hop may have you running for the door, but Shakespeare and Eminem have more in common than one might think – or so begins the lecture on hip hop’s 16th century roots. Iambic pentameter is the basis of all rap, and Dupré uses his flocabulary in the present day for a fierce rap battle between Marlowe and Shakespeare. When the crowd try to send him off-course he rhymes oranges with porridges with such ”rap-idity” that he appears possessed, with skills to match the Bard himself. Though not original, Dupré succeeds where many have failed. A man to watch, soon on the box.
