What’s He Building In There? (STaG)
By Lia Sanders | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
It’s all a bit absurd; a carpenter begins a romance with a chair, while his wife implores him to return to society, with the help of dead-behind-the-eyes businessmen whose speech sticks like records. In this original work by Glasgow University’s theatre society, all five actors have a fantastic ability to convey an emotion through a tapping foot – but Harriet Bolwell is particularly heart-breaking as the abandoned wife. I’ll admit that I didn’t quite understand it, and the more I pondered on that, the more certain of my uncertainty I became – but in a good way. Here’s a play that could stand up to re-watching and could be packed with audiences returning to work out more and more.
Zoo, 3-18 Aug, 12.00pm.
