Urban Fairytale (Bishops Stortford College)

By | Published on Friday 24 August 2012

Urban Fairytale is a fast-paced, highly accomplished piece of ensemble theatre, telling the story of our age through sharp comedy. The cast tackle all of the issues of the day, from the banking crisis to university elitism, by incorporating them into a compendium of fairy tales. Each plays its part in an overarching story that resolves with the kind of hope that the next generation needs to cling on to. It’s a brilliantly executed piece of theatre with some exceptionally talented young actors. However, my enjoyment of it was tempered by the occasional offensive reference, which is a shame, because the play was intelligent and funny enough without a badly dated Fritzl joke. Nonetheless, I wholly recommend you go and see this refreshing and inspiring play.
