Unneeded Baggage (Snickelway Theatre Company / PBH’s Free Fringe)

By | Published on Sunday 12 August 2012

An often-heard-before study of contemporary women. Or a fancy way of telling the story of the Trojan war (with a focus on Cassandra, like, yes, Marion Zimmer Bradley, the novel feminist par excellence)? Neither. And both. In a witty, quick and challenging manner, Snickelway race through stages of the development of feminism and its current manifestations. Are man and woman equal now? Where will this lead to, what comes next? And where did it start? When does freedom become a cage in itself? A fitting cast illustrates ideas of modern womankind… but actually, how modern are they? The asexual boyish cool girl – Athena. The strong homely jealous outspoken woman – Hera! And the flirty manipulative slut – Aphrodite! Astonishing, isn’t it!

Princes Mall, 4-8 Aug, 6pm.
