ED2012 2/5 Reviews ED2012 Theatre Reviews
Under The Ladder (Z Theatre Company)

“Break a leg”: accepted substitute for “good luck” in theatrical circles. This young troupe of actors takes the thespian superstitions to the extreme with this play about a village am-dram rehearsing for ‘Hamlet’. It’s engaging enough, although some characters can feel a bit stock, though with emerging tensions they become more real, and it made me wish the script had developed certain relationships further. There’s so much hinted at but never explored, and nothing stands out and dazzles. I quite liked it, but only as one would a casually caught TV episode; enjoyable enough in the moment, but you might not tune in again, and there’s no question of buying the box set.
