ED2012 3/5 Reviews ED2012 Theatre Reviews
Two Dogs (Beijing Young Dramatist Association)

I wasn’t predisposed to like this piece, because my bag was stolen halfway through. Not by a bag thief though, but in the name of international friendship by one of the two dogs in this absurdist performance. The show follows the canine compatriots travelling across China, and intersperses live rock music, slapstick comedy, and Chinese pseudo-proverbs in quite an engaging and wholly mystifying way. The show feels like one big joke, and when you consider the two performers had performed the show over nine hundred times in Chinese before this English version, it must be a pretty funny joke. The show is a glimpse into real, successful Chinese comedy, and it’s a good laugh if you can keep up.
