Tumble Circus – This Is What We Do For A Living (Underbelly Productions / Tumble Circus)
By Dave Fargnoli | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Ken Fall and Tina Machina have a story to tell; an autobiographical account of how they met, fell in love, broke up, but decided to carry on working together. This is the unassuming starting point of a performance which impressively blurs the line between circus and comedy. The duo started out as street performers, and fittingly there’s very little big top spectacle here. With all the glitter and glitz stripped away, their show seems almost too understated at first. Ultimately though, this only serves to underline the consummate skill of their remarkably polished act, where juggling, acrobatics, and trapeze work combine surprisingly well with low key clowning and witty bickering. What impresses most is how they make it seem so effortless.
Underbelly Bristo Square, 2-27 Aug (not 13), 3.40pm.
