True Colours (Oscar Mike)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

More an alternate reality game than theatre, ‘True Colours’ charges the audience with creating a new political party and hitting the streets to drum up popularity through completing challenges, often involving members of the public. Our party, Forward Movement (“because the only way forward… is forward!”) dressed people as students, made friends with dogs and defamed the opposition, all overseen by the Janus Media Corp. While fun, this is definitely DIY satire, and the shy should not apply. Maybe more interaction with Janus might have livened things up, provided a fall back for the less outgoing and made more of a statement about politics and the media. ‘True Colours’ is an entertaining, wacky diversion, but sadly nothing more.

Northern Stage at St Stephen’s, 21-25 Aug, times vary.
