Thin Ice (Shams / Time Won’t Wait / Escalator East To Edinburgh)

By | Published on Sunday 12 August 2012

A chilling thriller and romance exploring the courage people find in times of trouble, ‘Thin Ice’ draws inspiration from the ‘weather war’ during World War II, where Arctic bases were fought over to facilitate predicting European weather patterns. By choosing to stage the production in traverse, Jonathan Young gives the show an icy theatricality and the Arctic frost can almost be felt coming from the open set whilst sitting in the audience. The non-linear narrative adds to the atmosphere, and towards the end you are left feeling as though you are recalling a fading memory, though this sequencing can make it hard to follow. A fascinating production, with wartime drama, romance and cold comedy, keeping you gripped until the end.

Pleasance Courtyard, 6-27 (not 7, 14, 21) Aug, 11.45am.
