The Shape Of Things By Neil LaBute (Brylights)

By | Published on Friday 24 August 2012

What would you sacrifice for love? How far could you go in the name of art? ‘The Shape of Things’ tells a dark tale of love and betrayal in one doomed relationship between art student Evelyn and the shy, besotted Adam. This is an intense, moving piece of theatre, which nevertheless has moments of genuine humour. The audience are kept uneasily gripped as the story travels slowly towards its inevitable ending, as early on we begin to see, with foreshadowing hints, where things are going for Adam. This performance wasn’t without flaws, with one or two slightly unconvincing scenes and moments of forced dialogue, but the energy and passion of the cast make this a watchable, absorbing piece of theatre.
