The Property Known As Garland (Snapdragon Theatre)
By Charlotte Mortimer-Talman | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
A sad tale depicting the life of Judy Garland during her last tour, as she talks about co-stars, directors, her ”darling daddy” and the ”real wicked witch of the west”, her mother. Dealing with alcoholism, the horrors of being a former movie star with no money of her own, and the trials therein, Garland’s monologues really engender empathy and huge sympathy for ”Baby Gumm” and the life she lived. The show is set before the last show of her tour in Copenhagen, and the dynamics between Garland and the nineteen-year-old boy assigned to be her minder (he’s seen ‘The Wizard Of Oz’ 47 times) provide amusing relief from the heavy stuff, including a (literally) running gag about mashed potatoes.
