The Macbeth Project (Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools)

By | Published on Monday 20 August 2012

An appropriately Scottish play for the Fringe, this is a deceptively innocent remake of Macbeth as you’ve never seen or imagined it before. The young cast show immense promise and potential for the theatre – in particular, the choral vocals far exceeded the standard in many youth productions. The live music to accompany the young cast was also well performed and many of the musical numbers were catchy. However, these talented actors and musicians were let down by the muddy and confusing plot of the play. The convoluted set of ideas made deciphering the musical tedious work. Nonetheless, you will leave the theatre having felt entertained by the slick, smooth performance that perhaps the Bard himself couldn’t pull off.

The Tom Fleming Centre, 6-12 Aug, 6.00pm.
