The Last Days Of Judas Iscariot (Theatre Oikos)

By | Published on Friday 17 August 2012

It might be a small thing but I am incredibly impressed by the ability of Bradfield College’s theatre troupe to convincingly stick to a wide range of American accents. In Stephen Adly Guirgis’ play Judas Iscariot is on trial in a Purgatory which mimics New York and the whole range of characters who bear witness allows everyone a moment in the spotlight. My favourites are the sleek yet dangerous Satan (who I may have developed a slightly inappropriate crush for) and the sassy if rather white trashy Saint Monica. Nonetheless it’s a hard play to perform and, while they successfully manage to get us thinking anew about familiar Biblical and popular culture figures, there are moments that feel a little flat.

Zoo, 3-11 Aug, 12.00pm.
