The Good Person Of Szechwan (Chinese International School)

By | Published on Friday 24 August 2012

You don’t need to be an expert on Brecht’s Epic Theatre to enjoy this play. It’s a moral study, rich in South East Asian Culture, full of jokes, well directed and impressively acted. And of course, this is a young person’s theatre company, and so it’s all the more impressive. Two gods seek out good people to encourage, and finding one, are persuaded to actually help her. Things escalate from there. Theatre dealing with the practicalities of right, wrong, good and evil, can have a tendency to fall back on being serious, but that wasn’t the case here. There were poignant moments, but more than that, there were funny ones too. This is an excellent play- complex and never dull.
