Stand Up, Woman – Free (Julia Munrow – Drunken Sailor On A MastFreeht)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Julia Munrow’s comedy drama about a woman who tries stand-up in an attempt to learn to stand up for herself is a funny and engaging piece. Playing to an audience full of young kids on the top deck of a hot, slightly uncomfortable bus is not without its challenges but Munrow rises to them all admirably, getting her younger audience members involved while also giving a nod to the parents with some of her more saucy material. As Munrow herself says, ‘I’m more someone people laugh at than with’ so don’t expect laugh-a-minute stand-up here, but more a drama with humorous moments. This will resonate most with the parents in the room, as much of the material revolves around family life.
