Songs Of Lear (Song Of The Goat Theatre)

By | Published on Friday 24 August 2012

Without a doubt, this is the best thing I’ve seen at the Fringe. ‘Songs of Lear’ is a dramatic retelling of  ‘King Lear’ using song, and Song Of The Goat Theatre use this method to capture the essence of Shakespeare’s play perfectly. The performers emit so much passion that you can feel the emotion radiating through the room. It’s difficult to single out who gave the best performance because they were all truly talented; but it has to be said that Cordelia was devastatingly brilliant and utterly heartbreaking, though Lear was also completely captivating as the ill-fated king. Songs of Lear is a daring, passionate, innovative and truly brilliant piece of theatre. I cannot recommend it enough.
